Game of the week

Games? I'm the cynical counselor who doesn't do games.

Have another cocktail!

A watermelon mojito.

What could be more summery than that?

Cocktail of the week

Perhaps even more exciting than the pool boy/cabana boy/hunky gardener of the week? Is the cocktail of the week!

Here's my favorite, especially refreshing on a hot summer day:

The greyhound!

No, no, no, not that kind. This kind:

Blend one and half ounces of gin with five ounces of grapefruit juice. Pour over ice and serve. That's it!

Now, if you want to get fancy, you can garnish with a slice of fresh grapefruit. Or a twist of lime. You could muddle some fresh grapefruit at the bottom of your glass before adding the liquid. You can also add a splash of seltzer for fizz and fun, or even ginger ale or lemon-lime soda if you prefer a sweeter drink.

You can even use vodka instead of gin, though don't say you heard that from me.

Sorry, campers!

I meant to post first thing Monday morning, but life got away from me there for a bit.

I'm sure you all have no idea what that's like.

Anyway, now that we're at about the midpoint of the summer, perhaps we should take stock of how we're doing. How's it going? Are you happy? If not, is there anything you can change to make things better? Sometimes even a small change can make a big difference. Do the kids have enough to do? Or are they (and you) overscheduled? There is still time to make the most of the summertime, even if a course correction is required.

My major complaint (besides the spousage's shortcomings, and goodness knows there's not much I can do about him) is the recent heat wave. The only thing that helps (beyond getting/staying in air conditioned spaces, or large bodies of water) is taking some deep breaths and picturing myself someplace relaxing. Someplace where heat is okay, even good.

Like poolside. With a handsome cabana boy bringing me drinks. Drinks with little umbrellas. And then he gives me a foot massage. And then he...

Okay, you don't need to get carried away. But sometimes taking just a moment to breathe is a good thing.

It may tide you over til cocktail hour!

And it's always cocktail hour somewhere.

As my cabana boy of choice was already taken, I bring you an alternate: 007 cabana boy. Come closer! Closer still (NSFW)!

Now where's that cocktail?

Camp Game of the Week!

This is a little late but hey..it's still my week, right?

So, this week's camp game - The Classic "Marry, Shag or Cliff"!

I'll toss out a few choices to get you started, then you rate who you'd marry, who you'd shag and who you'd toss off a cliff. Good Times! At the end of your declaration, you get to pick three people for someone else to rate. There is no limit on participation because, frankly, there are days when one cliff just isn't enough. .

Here's the generic list to kick you off:

George Clooney
Harrison Ford
Johnny Depp

And here's the fandom list to kick you off:

Sean Bean
Orlando Bloom
Viggo Mortensen

Have fun!

Let's welcome our Pool/Cabana Boy Of The Week: Jacques!

Hello fellow campers! scarlettgirl here reporting for counselor duty, only a little late due to vacation/computer issues but all is well so let the good times roll! Sadly, Mr. Jackman had to pack up and head back to the 'Wood to see what he could do about that crazy new show of his. Honestly, someone needs to tell him only the Brits can pull off that wacky singing stuff.

No matter because this week we have a new boy in town!

Cut because this is sort of, not quite, worksafeCollapse )

This is a French Rugby player. Let's call him Jacques. And no, I don't know his name but I'm sort of shallow that way. Plus, does it matter? He's a pool/cabana boy! His only purpose is to serve our every whim and fancy. Although I will make sure he abides by the Mom Camp dress code. ;-) This photo was taken for the Dieux du Stade coffee table book photographed by the artist turned photographer Francois Rousseau. The amazing perseph2hades scanned a massive quantity of photos from the book here and let me tell you, it is quite the thing to brighten up a dreary day.

Now, Jacques will be settling into the staff quarters and will be poolside first thing in the morning with fresh towels and mimosas!

ETA: Sorry. Didn't mean to shout. :S

Team Spirit

We still have campers trickling in *waves to recent arrivals* but there's a bit of business my cohort cindergal</lj>and I want to toss out here now, primarily because I'm jumping ship leaving for vacation and won't be around for the fun and games next week.

We're looking for a few happy campers to act as "Camp Counselor of the Week". What is this onerous task? Well, you get to pick the pool boy of the week (if your of a fannish bent, this is a chance to represent!), the cocktail/summer drink of the week, and pick the camp game of the week* (yes, you can make us all dance like monkeys to *your* tune). Plus! You get a spiffy "Camp Counseler" icon to use. How's that for power?

So, here's our summer schedule, if you'd like to dominate us all volunteer, drop a comment.

June 18: cindergal
June 25: scarlettgirl
July 2: spicklething
July 9: ratphooey
July 16: peacockharpy
July 23: elfgirl
July 30: harmonyfb
August 6: terrylj
August 13:
August 20:
August 27:

Now, the bar is open in the Camp Hall - Cocktails are being served!

*Camp Game of the week can be as goofy as you like. Pick a meme, have us all design our fantasy cabins, play virtual truth or dare or have us all pick out our top five celebrity boy friends. This is camp. In every sense of the word.
